Spectrum Socials Process

1. Parents/ carers register with us by completing an information form

First we ask parents/carers to complete a form, to give us some background information about their child, including:

  • Age and diagnosis.
  • Communication abilities.
  • Address and preferred meet-up locations.
  • Special interests and favourite activities.
  • Favourite places and things to eat.
  • Specific needs or accommodations.

This form can be completed here:

2. Matching Process

Families are invited to a range of different events throughout London.

Based on the information provided, we will put children together into small groups of children, using criteria such as:

  • Age compatibility.
  • Shared interests.
  • Communication and ability levels.
  • Geographic proximity.

3. Facilitated Introductions

The group will be introduced to each other prior to the meet-up and they will be invited to join a virtual meeting to introduce themselves and their children to each other.

Support will be provided to help the children prepare for the social meet-up event, such as with guidance on conversation starters.

Parents/ carers will have the option to join a Whatsapp group, so it is easy for them to connect pre and post the event, and stay in contact if they wish.

4. Curated Social Meet-Up

A parent/ carer will accompany their children to the arranged social event, creating a supervised and comfortable environment for both the children and the adults.

The group will meet in an informal, relaxed setting, such as a café or restaurant. Where possible we will source private areas to create a calmer environment.

Therapists will join the group on a ratio of 1 to 3 children, to offer general support, help facilitate interactions, and develop social skills.
